Atlantic S.III/S-3
The S.III arrived in America late in January 1924. Noorduyn was very dissatisfied with its quality, weight, and weak Curtiss OX-5 engine. Nevertheless, AAC purchased the aircraft in March.
It was subsequently extensively rebuilt and fitted with a Wright Hispano E engine and new wings.
In that form, it participated in a competition for a new trainer at Brooks Field in Texas in May. The Curtiss PT-1 emerged victorious.
Later the aircraft was given new wings and sold as 'service aircraft' to the Wright engine factory.
First registered as 1085 and later 3395.
It was later donated to the Bergen County Aerial Police, but crashed after just a month.
The device was given MSN 1, which suggests an American model number.
