D.XI, the production
Even though a satisfactory prototype was not yet available, Fokker was already holding sales talks with customers for the D.XI in early 1923.
And those concerned the aircraft with the Hispano engine. Although designed for America, other buyers were of much greater interest. This specifically concerned the clandestine delivery to Germany and purchase by the Soviet Union.
The relief must have been great when a prototype that met expectations finally became available in June 1923.
Some improvements were made afterwards, but the model was ready for production.
In Veere, construction began on the aircraft for America. Immediately following this, construction began on 50 aircraft for Germany.
One was also delivered to Spain. The wing construction was outsourced to Werkspoor to reduce the burden on their own efforts.
And in December 1923 came the confirmation of the order of 125 pieces for the Soviet Union.
Production capacity had to be significantly increased. Photographs of overcrowded production halls in Amsterdam-Noord also date from this period. They also show numerous C.IVs and D.XIIIs that were being built simultaneously.
