Fokker Atlantic XFA-1 (AF-18)
On May 10, 1930, the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics issued specifications for a lightweight, single-seat fighter aircraft.
Based on a design, Atlantic was commissioned to build the XFA-1.
Design began shortly before Fokker Aircraft Company (Atlantic) became The General Aviation Manufacturing Corporation, and this reorganization delayed design and construction.
The XFA-1 was a biplane of largely metal construction, although the wings were covered with linen.
The XFA-1 was powered by a 450 hp Pratt & Whitney R-985C Wasp Junior and its armament consisted of two fuselage-mounted 7.62 mm machine guns.
The XFA-1 was eventually delivered to the US Navy for testing in March 1932, but it was not particularly successful during naval trials.
Further development was halted, resulting in one aircraft.
