The Fokker E-III

The E-III was the most important version of the Eindeckers. The first examples arrived on the Western Front in August 1915.
This version had a 100 hp 9-cylinder Oberursel UI rotary engine and was flown by legendary war pilots such as Oswald Boelcke, Max Immelmann, Ernst von Althaus, Hans-Joachim Buddecke, Otto Parschau and Kurt Wintgens.

The E-III reached a speed of 140 Km/h, none of the “E” types had ailerons in the wings, a turn could be made by pulling the wings back in combination with the rudder (wing warping).
