Overview page of the Fokker V-series
This page provides an overview of the V-series.
The Fokker V series ran from 1916 to 1919 and was largely designed by Reinhold Platz, who was chief designer at Fokker at the time.
The 'V' initially refers to 'Verspanningslohs', free-standing or self-supporting.
The M series had tension wires to give the wing its strength, but the V series no longer had these wires.
The tension wires create significant air resistance, which is detrimental to speed.
The 'V' was later used by Fokker for prototypes (Versuchsflugzeug).
